The arrival of the Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) in the 2026 Season 1 build marks one of the most significant updates in the history of iRacing’s one-make racing. This new car is not just a visual upgrade. It is a complete mechanical overhaul that brings the simulation in line with real-world 2026 specifications.

The Transition from 992.1 to 992.2

For years, the 992.1 model was the gold standard for high-skill, analog racing on iRacing. However, the real-world Porsche Supercup is moving to the 992.2 platform for 2026. Consequently, iRacing has retired the 992.1 to Legacy content.+1

The new Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) features a 10-horsepower increase, bringing the total output to 520 horsepower. This extra power, combined with refined aerodynamics, makes the car roughly 1 to 1.5 seconds faster per lap than the previous model.

Major Physics and Handling Overhauls

The driving experience has changed fundamentally due to several key updates in the physics engine.

Revised Suspension and Aero Geometry

iRacing engineers reworked the front suspension and aerodynamics to improve front-axle response. The new car understeers less and bites harder into corners. Additionally, the rear aerodynamics were updated with a new wing design that provides more consistent airflow and less turbulence.+1

The Introduction of ABS and Traction Control

The most discussed change is the addition of standard ABS and Traction Control.

ABS Implementation: The system uses “split front and rear axle slip targets” to simulate real-world electronic aids. This allows for much more aggressive braking while maintaining stability.

Traction Control (TC): While the Porsche Cup is already rear-heavy and has excellent traction, the new TC system helps catch slides during aggressive corner exits.

New Tire and Brake Specifications

The car utilizes the latest dry and wet tire models developed for iRacing’s GT3 and GT4 classes. Furthermore, the braking system now includes a range of pad options, including delivery and endurance specifications. These pads change how heat builds up and how the brakes fade over long stints.+1

Nürburgring Nordschleife Rules Package

The Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) includes a specific physics package for the Nordschleife.

Mandatory Specs: The car uses fixed spring rates and increased ride heights to handle the track’s bumps.

Aero Updates: Front dive planes are added to increase downforce on the technical sections of the Green Hell.

Power Adjustment: The car runs a “quiet exhaust” configuration at the Ring, which slightly reduces engine power to match real-world noise regulations.

The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 tips provided in this guide will help you master one of iRacing’s most rewarding machines. With the arrival of the 2026 Season 1 update, the Porsche Cup car has undergone a massive transformation. The addition of standard driver aids like ABS and Traction Control has made the car more approachable, but it still requires a precise touch to be fast. If you want to improve your lap times, follow these essential Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 tips for beginners.

Essential Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 Tips for Braking

The biggest headline for the 992.2 update is the addition of an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). However, the most important of our Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 tips is to avoid over-relying on this system. In this car, the ABS should be treated as a limit rather than a lifeline.

If you stomp the pedal to 100%, the ABS will engage, causing the pedal to chatter and potentially increasing your stopping distance. For maximum efficiency, aim for approximately 80% brake pressure on initial application. You want to feel the car slow down aggressively without constantly triggering the electronic aids. As you approach the apex, utilize trail braking to keep the nose pointed at the corner.

Mastering Throttle and Weight Transfer

Because the Porsche 911 is rear-engined, managing weight transfer is critical. One of the best Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 tips for beginners is to be patient with the throttle.

When you apply power too early in a corner, the weight shifts to the rear, which can cause the front tires to lose grip and understeer. Wait for the car to finish rotating before feeding in the throttle progressively. The new Traction Control (TC) system will help catch snaps of oversteer, but it will also kill your momentum if it has to intervene too often. Smoothness is always faster than aggression in a Porsche.

Managing Tire Temperatures and Wear

In previous versions of the car, rear tire wear was the main concern. However, in the 2026 update, the focus has shifted. A key part of our Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 tips involves watching your front tire temperatures.

The 992.2 has a very responsive front end, which makes it easy to “over-drive” the entry. Every time the car understeers mid-corner, you are scrubbing the front tires and building excessive heat. If you cook the front tires early in a stint, the car will become “lazy” and unresponsive for the remainder of the race. Focus on clean entries and avoid “sawing” at the steering wheel to keep your tires in the optimal window.

Beginner Setup Recommendations

Brake Bias: Start with a forward-leaning bias of 54.0%. This provides high stability during heavy braking zones.

Driver Aids: Keep both ABS and TC at Position 4 (the default for fixed setups) while you learn.

iRacing Baseline: Stick to the official iRacing setups before attempting to build your own.

The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release has officially arrived as the headline act of the 2026 Season 1 update. Launching on December 9, 2025, this highly anticipated car replaces the 992.1 across all official competitions. It brings significant performance upgrades and modern driver aids that align the simulation with the latest real-world Porsche Carrera Cup and Supercup specifications.+2

New Features in the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing Release

This evolution of the world’s most popular one-make racer is more than just a visual update. The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release introduces a reworked 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. Specifically, it now produces 520 horsepower, a 10-hp increase over its predecessor.+1

Aerodynamic Overhaul: The car features a new front-end design with louvered fenders to improve downforce. Furthermore, the revised rear “swan-neck” wing provides more consistent airflow.+1

Braking System: iRacing has implemented a complete rework of the braking system. This includes new brake pad options and improved heat dissipation for better durability in endurance events.+1

Rain Racing Ready: From day one, the 992.2 is fully equipped for the iRacing weather system. Specifically, it uses the latest spec of wet-weather tires developed with real-world driver feedback.+1

Launch Control: A new launch RPM limiter logic has been added. It arms while the car is stationary and helps manage wheelspin during standing starts.

The Addition of ABS and Traction Control

The most talked-about change in the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release is the inclusion of standard ABS and Traction Control (TC). In the real world, many Cup series are moving toward these aids for 2026 to improve car longevity and safety.

In the sim, these systems are enabled by default but can be adjusted or disabled by the driver. The ABS system features split front and rear axle slip targets, mimicking the high-tech Bosch M5 racing units. While some purists may prefer the “analog” feel of the older car, these aids allow you to attack the braking zones with much more confidence. Consequently, the car is expected to be roughly 1.5 seconds faster per lap than the 992.1 at most Grand Prix circuits.+1

Ownership and Series Migration

iRacing has been very generous with the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release. If you already owned the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.1), the new 992.2 was added to your account for free. The older model has now been moved to Legacy content.

This car immediately takes over as the primary vehicle for the iRacing Porsche Cup series and the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup. Furthermore, AI drivers have been fully trained to race the 992.2 on all supported tracks.

The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 Guide is your essential resource for mastering the latest evolution of iRacing’s premier one-make racer. With the 2026 Season 1 update, the Porsche Cup car has shifted from a raw, analog machine to a modern performance powerhouse. This new generation introduces sophisticated driver aids and improved aerodynamics that bring the simulation in line with real-world Carrera Cup standards.

Technical Specifications

The Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) is built for maximum efficiency and durability on the track. It remains a “pure” racing machine, omitting the complex hybrid systems of higher GT classes in favor of mechanical honesty.

Engine: 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six boxer engine.

Power: 520 HP (388 kW) at 8,750 RPM.

Torque: 347 lb-ft (470 Nm).

Transmission: Six-speed sequential dog-type gearbox with paddle shifts.

Weight: Approximately 1,288 kg (2,839 lbs).

Top Speed: Up to 190 mph depending on the aerodynamic configuration.

Handling and Driving Characteristics

The most significant update in the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 Guide is the inclusion of standard ABS and Traction Control. While older versions required perfect footwork to avoid lock-ups, the 992.2 allows you to be much more aggressive.

Braking Fidelity: The ABS system is designed for “split front and rear axle slip,” meaning you can brake deeper into corners without the car snap-rotating.

Rear-Engine Balance: The signature rear-heavy weight distribution still rewards drivers who can manage weight transfer. You must use the brakes to keep the nose pinned during entry.

Responsive Front End: Improved front suspension geometry reduces mid-corner understeer compared to the 992.1.

Difficulty: While it is now more beginner-friendly due to driver aids, it remains an “Advanced” car to drive at the absolute limit.

Real-World Racing and iRacing Series

The Porsche Cup is the foundation of professional GT racing globally. In the real world, this car competes in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and various national Carrera Cup series across North America, Europe, and Asia.

In iRacing, this car is the star of the iRacing Porsche Cup by CONSPIT. This series is a staple for Class C licenses and above, offering both Fixed and Open setup variants. It also serves as the vehicle for the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, where the world’s top sim racers compete for a $200,000 prize pool.

The Arrival of ABS and Traction Control

The biggest talking point is the addition of electronic driver aids. Specifically, the iRacing Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 features ABS and Traction Control as standard.

While some purists may worry, these changes reflect the real-world 2026 rules. Moreover, the car remains a challenge to master. The ABS system uses split front and rear axle slip targets. Therefore, the system feels representative of modern racing technology.

Nürburgring and Endurance Specs

A specific rules package now exists for the Nordschleife. For example, the car uses mandatory spring rates and front dive planes at that track. These parts appear in the art and the physics engine. These updates ensure the car meets the latest endurance standards.

Tire and Braking Technology

The car utilizes the latest dry and wet tire specifications. Additionally, iRacing implemented a range of front and rear brake pad options. These choices include both delivery and endurance pads.

Because of the new ABS, the brake bias settings are now more representative of the real car.
The Future of the Porsche Cup Series

The 992.2 immediately replaces the 992.1 in all official series. Current owners of the 992.1 received the new car as a free gift. However, the older 992.1 is now officially Legacy content. This ensures that iRacing competition stays aligned with the highest level of global motorsport.
