<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Lap-1 Survival:</strong> Brake 15–30m earlier than your best lap. Hold your lane. If you’re mid-pack, plan for a second stop of pedal pressure halfway in—rear-end avoidance is your real apex.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Watkins Glen (T1 + Esses)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">T1 invites optimism; the Esses punish it. A small touch at the T1 exit sends someone ping-ponging toward the uphill. Walls on both sides turn a half-spin into a track-blocking pinball.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Lap-1 Survival:</strong> Commit to a single line from T1 exit through the Esses. If smoke ahead, lift early; there’s rarely “a gap that will stay a gap.”</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bathurst / Mount Panorama (Hell Corner → Mountain Straight)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zero runoff plus concrete. Cold rears + throttle greed at Hell Corner equals long-straight pileups. Any lap-1 touch before Griffin’s Bend cascades into the pack.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Lap-1 Survival:</strong> Under-drive Turn 1 by a car length. Leave two tires’ worth of margin on exit. You’ll gain more dodging carnage than you’d ever gain with a perfect launch.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Belle Isle (T2–T4 Complex)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Street-circuit pinch points, big stop-and-go, snap oversteer exits, and nowhere to hide. One overcook becomes a multi-car barricade.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Survival:</strong> Treat Lap 1 like a VSC. Brake straight, no hero trail-brake, and prioritize exits over positions.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Road America (Start/Finish + Kettle Bottoms)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The grid compresses before T1; minor contact can block the racing lane under the flag stand. Later, Kettle Bottoms punishes “flat when not quite flat,” spitting cars back onto the line at lethal angles.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Survival:</strong> On starts, anticipate a mid-straight check-up. Down the back, lift 2% earlier than instinct and leave room driver’s right for ricochets.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Okayama Short</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Short run, tight hairpin, and huge pace deltas. Aggressive late-brakers divebomb into cars that are still sorting out two-wide.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Survival:</strong> Aim for the middle-middle line and plan a switchback; defending Lap 1 usually costs more than it saves.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Laguna Seca (T2 “Andretti”)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Wide entry, tightening exit, and different braking references across classes. Mid-corner checks create classic accordion pileups.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Survival:</strong> Brake where you can still rotate without ABS miracles. Commit to outside or inside early; straddling the center gets you pinched.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Oschersleben (T1–T2)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A classic funnel. Big stop into a tightening left with immediate load change—rear tires beg for mercy.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Survival:</strong> Straight-line brake and open the hands. If the inside stacks, be patient and cut back under.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Summit Point (T1 with Big Fields)</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">High compression at a medium-speed right where timid/greedy mixes badly. Multi-class grids escalate it.</p>

<li><strong>Eyes two corners ahead.</strong> If you see smoke or stutters up the road, lift now. The closing rate is always higher than you think.</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Widely considered the world’s most demanding road course, the Nürburging’s Nordschleife twists and turns, rises and falls for 12.9 miles through Germany’s Eifel Mountains.&nbsp; The ‘Ring boasts an elevation gain/loss of nearly 1,000 feet per lap and many of its 70+ bends like the Hatzenbach, Adenauer Forst, Wehrseifen, the Karussell, Pflanzgarten and Schwalbenschwanz are steeped in motorsports lore.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Constructed between 1925-27, the Nürburgring originally consisted of two circuits – the 14.1 mile Nordschleife and a companion 7.7 mile <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%BCdschleife">Südschleife</a> which were occasionally combined to form a mammoth, 17.6 mile Gesamtstrecke.&nbsp; The Nordschleife, however, was the centerpiece of the facility and hosted the German Grand Prix Formula One and 1000K sports car races through the 1970s when major safety renovations were carried out.&nbsp; But the 1976 German Grand Prix saw world champion Niki Lauda nearly perish in a fiery accident and the race was subsequently moved to Hockenheim.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, the German Grand Prix returned to the Nürburgring after the Nordschleife’s start/finish area and much of the<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%BCdschleife">Südschleife</a> were demolished to create a modern circuit – the mile Grand Prix Strecke in 1982-83.&nbsp; While the modern circuit played hosted to the German Grand Prix (and occasionally the European Grand Prix) from 1984-2014), the German Touring Car Championship and other events, the Nordschleife (shortened to 12.9 miles to make way for the GP Strecke) is still used for testing and club races and, in combination with the GP Strecke, the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring.&nbsp; When not in use for races and testing, the Nordschleife is open to the public for lapping days.</p>
