iRacing and Dirt

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has officially completed its first ever race on dirt. And that race was a major success. Fans are still talking about Eldora and how great of a race it really was from start to finish.

Race fans everywhere wonder if NASCAR will bring its Nationwide Series or even it’s Sprint Cup Series to dirt one day. Whether it be for points or an exhibition event, racing fans all over the world would be thrilled. Will it happen? Who knows. We will find out.

iRacers now also wonder, will iRacing scan Eldora? Can we do dirt? Will it ever happen? Well… I have to say yes it will. And it may not be as far away as one might think.

iRacing staffers have said that dirt is a possibility one day. It will require a lot of work and time for the simulation to know and understand dynamic track conditions. We just got movable cones in the last build and we seem light years away from having rubber build up on the track.

BUT… iRacing and NASCAR have a pretty strong relationship. Ever since the start of the NASCAR iRacing Series and Drivers World Championship, iRacing is fairly quick at getting us updates to NASCAR content. A couple of months after NASCAR removed the wing from the Cup Series cars our car matched. Then the new G6 cars were released right at the beginning of the 2013 season.

So with that relationship in tact, that leads us to believe that Eldora and dirt racing, with all of the anticipation and excitement, is definitely on iRacings radar somewhere. Maybe not before the next Mudsummer Classic, but who knows.

Eldora and the Camping World Truck Series might just be what tips the scales and pushes iRacing to start looking at dirt racing soon. It would no doubt be one of the biggest and most anticipated updates that iRacing has seen yet.
