iRacing offers multiple configurations of Mid-Ohio, each demanding different approaches.
Full Course (2.258 miles / 13 turns)
- Used for IndyCar, IMSA, and most major series.
- Features the Keyhole, full backstretch, Madness, and the Carousel.
- Demands the highest technical precision with no margin for error.
Chicane Layout (2.4 miles / 15 turns)
- Inserts a slower chicane before Madness, originally designed for CART/IndyCar safety.
- Reduces entry speeds and alters rhythm, placing greater emphasis on braking control.
- Offers a different flavor for series wanting to add an extra layer of technicality.
Track Characteristics
- Elevation changes: Over 130 feet of rise and fall across a lap.
- Narrow racing surface: A defining feature, making track position critical.
- Grip variation: Paved in the 1990s, resurfaced later, sections still feature differing grip levels.
- Natural road course feel: The track’s flow is old-school, with blind crests and off-camber turns.
- Setup challenge: Cars must compromise between agility in Madness and traction out of the Carousel.
No matter the configuration, Mid-Ohio is about balance and commitment. Its short lap amplifies pressure, and small mistakes quickly become race-ending.
