The Nürburgring enters iRacing on December 8, 2015, via the 2016 Season 1 build. What makes this release extraordinary is that it is not just one track—it is essentially three experiences in one:
- The GP-Strecke (modern Grand Prix circuit)
- The Nordschleife (the legendary “Green Hell” old loop)
- The Combined / Gesamtstrecke layout, which links GP + Nordschleife for ultra-endurance racing
Because of the track’s tremendous length and complexity, iRacing packages it in a modular way: users can purchase the GP circuit and Nordschleife separately; owning both unlocks the full Combined layouts. This modular system allows flexibility in how racers approach it. iRacing+1
At launch, iRacing offers multiple configurations for both GP and Nordschleife, plus combined variants that integrate them into a single lap. The combined circuits are especially critical for events like the Nürburgring 24 Hours, where the full “Green Hell + GP loop” is used.
What makes the Nürburgring release unique in iRacing
- Scale and ambition: One of the longest, most complex circuits ever offered in a sim.
- Dual identities: GP circuit for modern racing, Nordschleife for classic endurance, and Combined for the final test.
- Endurance centerpiece: Designed to support 24-hour, multi-class events.
- Historical depth: The track carries layers of motorsport heritage—from early GP to touring and sportscar legends.
- Dynamic variability: Weather, traffic, and configuration changes all play massive roles in how the track drives.
This release isn’t just about adding a new circuit—it’s a statement: iRacing is able to simulate one of motorsport’s most demanding and revered venues in full fidelity.
