Road America iRacing Guide & Track Tips

Road America is a 4.048‑mile, 14‑turn classic that defines American road racing. Long straights, heavy braking zones, and flowing elevation changes create a track that’s easy to learn and hard to master. In iRacing, it consistently delivers strategic, draft‑heavy racing across everything from GT3 to NASCAR stock cars.

History & Prestige

Opened in 1955 near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Road America has hosted IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR and countless club events. Its nickname—“America’s National Park of Speed”—captures the vibe: fast cars, forest backdrops, and a layout that rewards bravery and precision.

Layout Basics

  • Length: 4.048 miles / 6.515 km
  • Turns: 14
  • Character: Long straights, big stops, commitment corners

Driving Notes

Turn 1 is a fast right where track limits matter; a clean exit sets up Turn 3 and the Moraine Sweep. Turn 5 is the premier overtaking spot—downhill braking into a tight left. The uphill to Turn 6 and the flow through Turn 7 demand blind‑entry confidence. The famous Carousel punishes impatience; protect the right‑side tires. After the flat‑out Kink comes Kettle Bottoms—a drafting runway into Canada Corner where late brakers shine.

Pit Lane & Race Management

Pit entry is easy to overshoot; mind the limiter. Safety cars compress the field and magnify draft trains—expect late‑race battles where exits from Turn 14 decide finishes. Tire life matters in GT racing; prototypes focus on traffic management into Canada Corner.
