Road America officially offers a single main configuration in iRacing, but the way it races can feel completely different depending on car class, weather, and race length. Think of it in sectors and scenarios rather than layouts.
Sector Flow
Front Straight to T1: Draft sets up attacks; precision matters to avoid exceeding track limits. T3 to T5 (Moraine Sweep): Long slipstream run into the heaviest stop on the lap—textbook overtaking. Mid‑lap (T6–T8): Blind uphill braking and rhythm through fast direction changes. Carousel & Kink: Patience and commitment; tiny errors grow huge. Canada Corner to Finish: Big stop, then momentum through T13–T14 to launch a lap or defend to the flag.
How Classes Race Here
- GT3/GT4: Draft packs and tire management. Overtake at T5 and Canada Corner; defend with exits from T3 and T14.
- LMP/Prototypes: Flat (or nearly) through the Kink; time gains from aero efficiency and traffic clears. Beware lapping GT cars into Canada Corner.
- NASCAR Stock Cars: Survival under braking; wheel‑to‑wheel into T5. Use second gear for rotation at T3; protect rear tires through the Carousel.
Strategy Notes
- Qualifying: Clean air is king—leave space; a tiny lift in the Kink may be faster than a white‑knuckle slide.
- Sprint Races: Track position matters; defend the inside into T5 and T12, but plan exits.
- Endurance: Save right‑side tires; be patient in traffic; plan pit entries carefully to avoid penalties.
