NASCAR Next Gen Cars Update – Tire and Physics Tweaks

Handling and durability improvements applied.

The NASCAR Next Gen cars in iRacing are undergoing major refinements to improve balance, durability, and realism. Updates across this period target the tire model, suspension, and aerodynamics, while standardized pit stop repair procedures are also being implemented for the entire Cup car set.

Tire Model Adjustments

The updated tire model provides more natural grip progression and wear characteristics. Drivers now feel a clearer transition from fresh tires to worn conditions, especially over long green-flag runs. This makes tire management more important than ever, particularly on intermediate tracks where heat and wear can define race strategy.

Suspension & Handling Changes

Refinements to the suspension system deliver a more authentic feel under braking, cornering, and acceleration. Weight transfer is smoother and more predictable, which helps the cars feel more stable on corner entry while still punishing overly aggressive inputs. Together with the new tire model, the car requires a more disciplined driving style, rewarding consistency and finesse.

Aerodynamic Tweaks

The Next Gen’s aerodynamic balance is also being tuned to reduce instability in traffic and improve predictability during side-by-side racing. Drafting still plays a huge role on superspeedways, but the adjustments make the car more manageable when stuck in the turbulent air of another competitor.

Standardized Pit Stop Repairs

One of the biggest changes is the move to standardized pit stop repair procedures. Instead of the old “fast tow” system, Cup cars now use a consistent pit crew model where required repairs must be completed before returning to the track. Optional repairs can still be taken for those willing to sacrifice track position for performance. This change adds a new strategic layer to Cup racing, particularly in endurance-style or caution-heavy events.

The ongoing updates transform the NASCAR Next Gen cars into a more authentic and competitive experience in iRacing. With refined tires, suspension, aerodynamics, and pit procedures, the Cup Series package feels closer than ever to its real-world counterpart. For sim racers, it means more strategy, more precision, and more excitement every time the green flag waves.
