Watkins Glen offers four configurations in iRacing, each with a distinct character:
Cup (Short Course – 2.45 miles)
- Used by the NASCAR Cup Series.
- Skips the Boot, making for shorter, faster laps.
- High-speed, momentum-based racing with drafting battles.
Boot (Grand Prix – 3.45 miles)
- Full-length layout including the Boot section.
- Used by IMSA, FIA endurance, and GT championships.
- Adds technical uphill/downhill corners for a more complete challenge.
Classic Boot
- Older-style version of the Boot with historical corner geometry and curbing.
- Provides a retro racing experience.
Classic (Short Historic)
- Original short course prior to the Boot’s addition.
- Compact, fast, and simpler in layout.
Track Characteristics
- High-speed sections: The Esses and backstretch encourage drafting and slipstream overtakes.
- Technical zones: The Boot tests braking, throttle control, and car balance.
- Versatility: Works equally well for NASCAR, IMSA, grassroots, and endurance racing.
- Overtaking zones: Turn 1, the Bus Stop, and Turn 8 (Boot entry) are hotspots for passes.
Watkins Glen is the rare track that excels in nearly every configuration, offering different flavors of racing while maintaining its trademark flow.
