Cosworth Pi Toolbox Now Live for iRacers

Pi Toolbox is a telemetry/data-analysis suite by Cosworth, long used by professional motorsport teams (F1, WEC, Rally, etc.) to analyze lap data, vehicle performance, driver behavior, and more.

With this new release, Pi Toolbox now natively supports iRacing telemetry — in particular, the .ibt telemetry files that iRacing generates.

What’s New (vs. What’s Expected)

Here are the key features and benefits that the new integration offers:

Here are the key features and benefits that the new integration offers:

FeatureDescription
Free Access for iRacing UsersAnyone with an active iRacing account can download Pi Toolbox and start using it without charge.
Native .ibt Telemetry SupportNo need for converters or plugins — the telemetry files from iRacing are supported directly.
Pre-loaded Layouts & TemplatesFor newcomers to telemetry analysis, there are ready-to-use workbooks/layouts so you can begin analyzing immediately.
Pro-Level Features & Deep AnalyticsFor more advanced users, there are tools to dig deep: compare laps, analyze system data (e.g. tires, suspension), examine driver input, etc.
Optional “Plus” LicenceAside from the free version, there’s a Plus licence that unlocks enhanced, pro-level features and templates.
Live Remote Telemetry (coming later)One of the features in the works is live data support, so that others (spotters, team mates) can view data in real time during sessions.

Why This Matters

This is a big deal for sim racers and the broader sim motorsport community. A few reasons:

  1. Bridging the Sim-to-Real Gap
Many professional teams already use Cosworth’s tools; now sim racers get access to the same kinds of data, analysis, workflows. It helps training, comparing, and learning in a more “real world” way.
  2. Better Insights → Faster Improvement
Because the tool offers deep visibility into telemetry, drivers can better understand what’s happening with their car: tire behavior, steering inputs, braking, throttle, etc. Traditionally, many sim racers have relied on simpler dashboards or community tools that are less precise. Pi Toolbox could unlock performance gains.
  3. Lower Barrier to Entry for Data Analysis
Prebuilt templates, native support, free access — these reduce the friction for people who were intimidated by telemetry. Sim racers can jump in, start exploring, learn gradually.
  4. Potential for Competitive & Team Uses
For teams (in leagues, esports, or clubs), this arrangement opens up possibilities: sharing telemetry, comparing setups, benchmarking, coaching, etc., all with a serious tool.
  5. Sets a New Standard
With this integration, iRacing continues to strengthen its realism credentials. Having official telemetry support with respected tools adds to its legitimacy and appeal.

What You Should Know / Some Caveats

While it’s a strong release, there are some things users may want to be aware of:

Learning Curve: For serious analysis, there is complexity. If you’ve never worked with raw telemetry, there will be things to learn (channels, filtering, interpreting graphs). The pre-loaded templates help, but don’t expect to master everything immediately.

Plus-Licence Cost: The enhanced features (Plus) will cost money. For some users, the free version will be sufficient; for others, those extra tools will be worth the upgrade.

Real-Time Features Are Not All Active Yet: Some features, like live telemetry view by remote users, are promised later.

Hardware & Setup Dependencies: To get the best out of the tool, good telemetry logging, stable rigs, potentially high sample-rate data, etc., help. Performance (fps, PC speed) might affect how smoothly analysis works with large sessions.

How to Access and Get Started

Here are practical steps for iRacing users who want to try Pi Toolbox now:

  1. Visit the Cosworth Members Portal
Go to the Cosworth website → members portal. From there, register (if you haven’t already).
  2. Download Pi Toolbox v14 (Early Access)
The version that supports iRacing .ibt telemetry is v14 in early access.
  3. Open & Load Telemetry Data
After installation, load your iRacing telemetry files. Use pre-built layouts first to get comfortable. From there, explore comparing laps, analyzing data.
  4. If Desired, Look Into Plus Licence
If you want more advanced features or templates, review what the Plus licence offers, and decide if upgrading makes sense.
  5. Provide Feedback / Explore Tutorials
Because this is new (or early access), there will likely be updates, more docs, community input. Keep an eye on Cosworth / iRacing releases, forums, and guides.

What’s Next

What to watch for following today’s release:

When live remote telemetry becomes more robust and available. That will change how teams, spotters, and multi-driver setups can collaborate mid-race.

More advanced templates/layouts tailored to specific car types, tracks, driving styles.

Possible enhancements in performance or usability as feedback comes in.

How this integrates with other tools (third-party, community tools) — whether it replaces them, complements them, or forces change.

Today’s launch of Cosworth Pi Toolbox for iRacing is a landmark moment for sim racing. For the first time, all users get access to a professional-grade telemetry analysis tool with native support, without needing workarounds. It promises deeper insights, better performance, and increased realism.

If you’re serious about improving, racing competitively, or just curious what’s happening behind the numbers, this is worth your time to explore. Even if you’re casual, the new tool offers things that can make your experience richer.
