Updated Super Late Model: Physics and Balance Tweaks

Refinements to handling and tire balance applied.

The Updated Super Late Model in iRacing continues to evolve with refinements made throughout 2024–2025. These changes go beyond cosmetic improvements, focusing on the car’s core physics and handling balance to ensure it feels and behaves like its real-world counterpart on short tracks across North America.

Suspension Geometry Updates

The revised suspension geometry improves how the chassis loads up through corners. In practice, this means:

  • More natural weight transfer as the car rolls onto the right-side tires.
  • Better responsiveness when entering and exiting corners.
  • A setup platform that allows drivers to fine-tune cross weight and shock adjustments more effectively.

The end result is a car that reacts more predictably, particularly in long green-flag runs where consistency matters most.

Aerodynamic Balance Refinements

Though Super Late Models rely primarily on mechanical grip, small changes to aerodynamic balance make a noticeable difference. The tweaks give the car:

  • Slightly greater stability at high speed down short track straights.
  • Improved turn-in behavior when entering corners under load.
  • More confidence in side-by-side racing situations, where dirty air previously unsettled the car.

These changes enhance close-quarters racing without compromising the raw, mechanical feel that makes short track racing unique.

Tire Model Enhancements

The updated tire data may be the most significant change for drivers. The car now features:

  • More realistic grip falloff over a run, forcing drivers to pace themselves rather than abusing the tires early.
  • Improved heat and wear characteristics, making smooth inputs more rewarding.
  • A better balance between short-run speed and long-run consistency.

This creates a deeper strategic element in races, where tire management can be just as important as outright pace.

The End Result

With these updates, the Updated Super Late Model feels more authentic and competitive than ever. The car rewards drivers who:

  • Manage tires with patience.
  • Fine-tune their setups for changing track conditions.
  • Adapt driving styles as grip evolves over a race distance.

For both league competition and official iRacing series, the refinements keep the Super Late Model at the forefront of short track racing in the sim. It remains one of the most challenging—and rewarding—cars in iRacing’s oval lineup.
