iRacing and FIA Partnership: Dirt Road’s First True Entry-Level Machine

The iRacing FIA Cross Car is officially coming to the sim, creating a true entry point for dirt-road racers.

A new partnership between the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and iRacing brings one of the FIA’s most exciting grassroots classes into the virtual world for the first time.
➡️FIA Cross Car overview

Cross Car racing—often called rallycross for beginners—uses lightweight, tube-frame buggies powered by motorcycle engines.
They’re fast, affordable, and incredibly agile, making them a perfect fit for iRacing’s growing dirt-road discipline.

A Gateway to Dirt Road Racing

Until now, iRacing’s dirt-road category has lacked a true starter car.
Drivers typically begin with the Subaru WRX STI or Volkswagen Beetle Lite—both thrilling but challenging for newcomers.

The Cross Car fills that gap, giving new drivers a forgiving and fun way to learn rallycross-style racing.

Powered by a compact motorcycle engine producing around 80 horsepower, the car features a sequential gearbox and a feather-light chassis built for door-to-door action. It’s designed to slot directly into the Dirt Road Rookie license path, with dedicated AI races and official series expected soon.

What to Expect

The Cross Car launches with iRacing’s latest dirt-surface and suspension technology. It features advanced particle effects, realistic weight transfer, and dynamic grip across mixed asphalt-and-dirt circuits.

As an official FIA-licensed vehicle, it includes authentic specs, logos, and FIA-approved paint templates for competitive and community use.

Why the iRacing FIA Cross Car Matters

Why It Matters

This launch signals a deeper collaboration between iRacing and the FIA, strengthening the sim’s grassroots motorsport ecosystem and paving the way for FIA-branded esports programs.

For dirt-road fans, it adds variety and realism.

For newcomers, it provides a comfortable first step into off-road racing—an authentic gateway that ties virtual motorsport directly to the real FIA development ladder.
