iRacing tied the release window directly to the 2027 Indianapolis 500. iRacing describes it as arriving in the countdown to open-wheel racing’s biggest event. iRacing Studios, known for its subscription simulation platform, is building the title for consoles and PC.
INDYCAR Chief Marketing Officer Alex Damron framed the announcement as an invitation to a new audience. “Our new video game is going to capture the energy and drama of our sport with hyper-realism, bringing our series to a new generation of gamers,” Damron said. “Partnering with iRacing ensures this will be a truly special new chapter in our gaming history. We can’t wait for fans to get behind the wheel.”
iRacing president Tony Gardner was equally direct about the scope of the project. “This is a project our team has been passionate about for a long time,” Gardner said. “We’re bringing everything we know about authentic, immersive racing to consoles and PC, and creating an experience worthy of the INDYCAR name.”
Today’s announcement also includes the official INDYCAR Racing The Game logo and the first in-game images. The screenshots show NTT INDYCAR SERIES machinery in on-track action. Game modes, features, and pre-order details are not yet released. iRacing says additional information will follow in the coming months.
For context, INDYCAR and iRacing have had a working relationship for years. Their INDYCAR Thrustmaster Pro Series runs on the iRacing platform. The Dallara IR-18 has been part of the iRacing content library for years. However, this announcement is something different. INDYCAR Racing The Game is a standalone release targeting a gaming audience outside iRacing’s subscriber base. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES license covers the full race calendar. That includes the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, street circuits, road courses, and ovals.
For existing iRacers, the most interesting open question is simulation depth. iRacing built its reputation on physics fidelity that demands real setup knowledge and genuine racecraft. Whether INDYCAR Racing The Game maintains that standard or softens it for a controller-first audience is still unknown. Every current subscriber will be tracking that detail as more announcements arrive.
The history here adds weight to this announcement. The last dedicated INDYCAR game shipped more than 20 years ago. That was the era of Papyrus Design Group’s IndyCar Racing II and EA Sports’ Indy Racing League series. Since then, the F1 series from Codemasters has largely defined open-wheel gaming. INDYCAR Racing The Game is a direct move into that space.
iRacing Studios has been building out its standalone game portfolio alongside the core simulation. The studio also publishes NASCAR 25, World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing, iRacing Arcade, and ExoCross. An INDYCAR title is a significant addition to that lineup. Because the Dallara IR-18 already exists in the main iRacing simulation, the development team is not starting car data from scratch.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway connection is worth noting specifically. The Brickyard is already in the iRacing content library, scanned to iRacing’s laser-scan precision. Fans of both the series and the sim can expect that same track data when INDYCAR Racing The Game launches. iRacing has not confirmed whether the full NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar will be included at launch or rolled out over time. iRacing says those details will arrive in the coming months.
