World Wide Technology Raceway: Overview & Guide

Overview & Guide article for World Wide Technology Raceway in iRacing.

World Wide Technology Raceway is a 1.25-mile (2.01 km) oval located in Madison, Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis. Known for its distinctive egg-shape and two very different sets of corners, it races more like a hybrid between a short track and a flat intermediate oval.

Track Specs

  • Length: 1.25 miles (2.01 km)
  • Banking: 11° in Turns 1–2, 9° in Turns 3–4
  • Surface: Asphalt
  • Opened: 1967 (original drag strip), oval opened in 1997

Driving Tips

  • Turns 1–2: Tighter radius and higher banking; requires heavy braking and precision on entry.
  • Turns 3–4: Flatter and more sweeping; momentum matters, and throttle control is key.
  • Setup Compromise: Cars can’t be perfect at both ends of the track, so finding balance is critical.
  • Passing: Dive-bombs into Turn 1 are common, but Turn 3 requires setup over multiple laps.
  • Tire Management: With constant braking and acceleration, tire wear plays a large role in long runs.

Gateway in iRacing rewards drivers who can adapt lap to lap, balancing aggression with patience.
