Most sim racers start with one bass shaker under the seat. It makes a real difference. The rumble of kerbs, the pulse of ABS, and the vibration of engine load all come through as a single blended signal beneath you. However, a full six-unit bass shaker setup is a different category of experience because it separates those signals into distinct zones. When your pedal plate responds to brake pressure independently from two seat shakers responding to wheel spin, you are getting more information from the rig rather than simply more vibration. That is the core distinction, and it is worth building toward.

Why a Six-Channel Bass Shaker Setup Works
Single-shaker setups blend every signal together. The same unit that tells you about engine rumble is also trying to communicate ABS pulsing, kerb chatter, and lateral G-force simultaneously. At high intensity, the feedback is loud but imprecise. At low intensity, the subtle signals disappear entirely.
Six shakers solve this because each mounting zone carries a different type of information. Your left and right seat shakers handle lateral G-force and differential wheel spin. Your pedal plate shaker handles brake pressure, lockup, and ABS pulse. Your chassis or siderail shakers handle road texture, bump impacts, and engine RPM.
Because each zone is powered independently through SimHub, you tune the sensitivity of each effect without affecting the others. iRacing’s telemetry output through SimHub gives you enough clean signal channels to use all six zones meaningfully. In practice, you end up with feedback that communicates car behavior rather than just generating movement.
The Hardware You Need
The Dayton Audio BST-1 is the most commonly used shaker for multi-unit setups among iRacers. It runs at 50 watts per unit, handles most rig materials well, and is priced to make a six-unit purchase reasonable. The Clark Synthesis TST239 is a step up in quality and costs more per unit. For lighter mounting points like pedal plates, some iRacers use lower-wattage options such as the Buttkicker Gamer 2 Mini or Nobsound units, which transfer vibration cleanly through a thin pedal plate without the mass of a full BST-1.
For amplification, you need enough channels to drive all six shakers independently. A four-channel amp paired with a stereo amp covers six outputs cleanly. A dedicated six-channel amp is the tidier solution and easier to manage through SimHub. Check the ohm rating of your chosen shakers and match the amp’s per-channel output carefully. Mismatched impedance is one of the most common mistakes in first-time multi-shaker setups, and it degrades performance and equipment life over time.
SimHub is the software layer that converts iRacing telemetry into vibration commands. It is free and handles all the zone mapping and effect assignment. Add 16 or 18 AWG speaker wire, good cable ties, and mounting hardware appropriate for your rig frame to complete the parts list.
Where to Mount Each Shaker
Placement matters more than hardware selection at this level. Think through each zone carefully before you drill or clamp anything permanently.
For the seat, mount two shakers to the underside of the seat pan, one on the left side and one on the right. Left-right placement allows SimHub to apply different intensities to each side, which gives you lateral G-force feedback and left-versus-right wheel spin differentiation. If your seat is an aluminum shell, screw the shakers directly to the underside surface. If it uses foam cushioning, use a rigid plate between the shaker and the seat to transfer vibration efficiently. Foam absorbs most of the output and defeats the purpose.
For the pedal plate, mount one shaker centrally under the plate. This zone handles ABS pulse, brake pressure feedback, and kerb sensation at your feet. Many iRacers say this is the most immediately useful single zone in a six-shaker build. When your foot senses the brake starting to lock before the car slides, you release pressure earlier. That is a genuine driving aid, not just immersion.
For the chassis or siderails, mount two or three shakers to the main rig frame. These carry general road texture, engine rumble, and larger bump impacts. Run these zones at lower intensity than the seat or pedal shakers. They provide background context rather than direct feedback, and too much intensity from the chassis shakers turns into noise that drowns out the more precise signals from your seat and pedals. If your rig has a steering column, one small shaker mounted there adds kerb feedback through your hands, which is optional but worth trying once the core zones are tuned.

Configuring Your Bass Shaker Setup in SimHub
Open SimHub and navigate to the ShakeIt Bass Shakers plugin. Add your audio output device, which should be your amplifier connected via a USB audio interface or dedicated sound card. Each output channel maps to one physical shaker in the rig.
Assign effects by zone. For the left and right seat shakers, assign lateral G-force and wheel spin differential effects. For the pedal shaker, assign brake pressure and ABS effects. For the chassis shakers, assign road texture, bumps, and engine RPM at reduced overall intensity compared to the other zones.
Start every effect at 10 to 20 percent of its SimHub maximum value. Drive five or six laps and pay attention to what each zone is contributing. Because the six-zone separation gives you clean channels, you can identify each type of feedback individually. Then raise each effect until the signal is informative without becoming intrusive. Most iRacers settle on seat shakers at 30 to 50 percent, pedal shakers at 40 to 60 percent, and chassis shakers at 20 to 30 percent of their SimHub settings.
Save your configuration as a named profile in SimHub before you start making adjustments. If the feedback starts feeling worse after changes, you can restore the baseline quickly. Many iRacers keep two profiles, one for road courses and one for ovals, because the types of feedback that matter most differ significantly between surface types.
Give the full setup three or four sessions before drawing conclusions. Your driving adapts to the information over time, and the initial experience of six independent vibration channels can feel like a lot before it starts to feel like exactly the right amount.
Six shakers is not where everyone needs to start. However, once you have driven a tuned six-zone bass shaker setup in iRacing, the appeal of separate feedback channels becomes clear quickly. The pedal zone alone is worth the extra hardware. Add the seat separation for lateral feedback and you have a rig that tells you where the grip is, not just that something is happening. That distinction is what makes a six-shaker setup worth building.
