Daytona International Speedway is one of the crown jewels of iRacing, just as it is in real-world motorsport. As the home of the Daytona 500 and the Rolex 24 at Daytona, it represents both NASCARโs biggest stage and one of sports car racingโs most prestigious endurance events.
Daytona has been a part of iRacing since the simโs very beginning in 2008, included as one of the launch tracks. Over time, iRacing has expanded its Daytona offerings with rescans, surface updates, graphical improvements, and additional layouts to keep pace with real-world changes. The result is a track that has grown alongside the sim itself, remaining one of the most-raced venues in the service.
Initial Release โ 2008
- Daytona International Speedway was part of iRacingโs original launch content in 2008.
- Included the 2.5-mile superspeedway oval and the road course used for sports car events.
- Labeled in later years as [Legacy] Daytona International Speedway โ 2008 in the release notes archive.
Additional Configurations โ 2011
- In 2011, iRacing added more non-rallycross configurations for Daytona.
- These included expanded road course variants, making the track more versatile for multi-class racing and endurance events.
Rescans & Visual Updates
Over the years, Daytona has received several rescans and graphical overhauls to keep it aligned with real-world changes:
- Surface & Art Updates: Track surface, lighting, and textures were improved multiple times to reflect changes at the real facility.
- Start Zone & Pit Road Adjustments: Updates to NASCARโs official start zone rules and pit entry/exit lines were implemented.
- Rolex 24 Events: As iRacingโs flagship special event, Daytonaโs road course has been continuously polished to support the annual 24-hour endurance race.
NASCAR Road Course Layout โ 2020
- In 2020, iRacing added the NASCAR Road Course configuration.
- This mirrored NASCARโs real-world decision to hold Cup and Xfinity races on the Daytona road course for the first time.
- It provided a unique hybrid experience, combining stock car racing with sports car-style road course challenges.
Current Status
Today, Daytona International Speedway in iRacing includes:
- The 2.5-mile oval, home of the Daytona 500.
- The sports car road course, centerpiece of the Rolex 24.
- The NASCAR Road Course, added in 2020.
- Multiple visual and surface updates to ensure accuracy to the modern facility.
Daytona remains one of the most important and iconic circuits in iRacing. From pack racing chaos on the oval to endurance racing strategy on the road course, it embodies both the spectacle and diversity of real-world motorsport.
