The iRacing GTP tire update is set to arrive this January as a major overhaul for the premier prototype class. Officially announced by Executive Producer Greg Hill in late December, this update aims to improve the quality of life for GTP drivers ahead of the 2026 iRacing Daytona 24. The changes focus on both physical realism and a striking new visual identity for the Michelin rubber used by the Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, and Porsche entries.
Michelin Vision Technology and Visuals
The most noticeable part of the iRacing GTP tire update is the introduction of the “Vision” tread pattern. This design features a unique nano-laser-etched pattern on the tire mold, creating a web-like look on the surface of the slick. While this pattern typically wears away within the first few laps, it serves as a visual indicator of Michelin’s commitment to sustainability and high-tech manufacturing.
Additionally, the update will include a new graphical shader for the tires. This shader accurately reproduces the cellular pattern of the real-world sidewalls, blending shiny and matte properties. Greg Hill noted that the new look is “striking” and brings the sim closer to the broadcast quality of a real IMSA event.

Improved Warmup and Handling Goals
The primary goal of the iRacing GTP tire update is to address the “out-lap” difficulty many drivers have struggled with. Specifically, the physics team has focused on improving cold tire warmup to make the cars more manageable during the first few laps of a stint.
- Turn-in Response: Drivers can expect a more direct feel from the front end during initial turn-in.
- High-Speed Stability: The update aims to stabilize the rear end in high-speed corners, reducing the risk of “snap” oversteer.
