GT3 is one of the most popular car classes in iRacing and one of the most competitive. Large grids, capable drivers, and close racing in every session. If you are looking for an iRacing GT3 beginner guide to help you make the jump, here is what to know before your first race.

Pick One Car and Stick With It
There are multiple GT3 cars available in iRacing, including the BMW M4, Porsche 992, Ferrari 296, Lamborghini Huracan, and others. They all behave differently.
Pick one, buy it, and learn it. The biggest mistake new GT3 drivers make is switching cars before they understand any of them. Get to know one car’s limits before you consider moving.
Use a Default Setup First
GT3 setups are complex. Aero, dampers, brake bias, differential, there are more adjustment points than most drivers will need at first. Start with the default or a well-rated community setup and focus on driving it cleanly before you change anything.
A small change in rear wing or brake bias changes the car significantly. Learn the baseline before you optimize.
Understand the Tire
GT3 tires in iRacing have a performance window. They build heat over the first few laps, peak, and then degrade. The car at Lap 1 feels different from the car at Lap 5.
Ease into it on cold tires. Pushing hard in the first lap before the tire is up to temperature is one of the most common causes of early incidents.
Manage Traffic
GT3 sessions run large grids. Knowing when to give space and when to defend is a skill that takes time to develop. Early on, err toward giving space.
One defensive move that costs you half a second is better than one defensive move that costs you the race.
What to Expect in Your First Few Races
Your first GT3 races will be messy, that is normal. Braking points from testing feel different in traffic. The car behaves differently with heat building from the grid around you.
Give yourself five to ten races before you judge your pace. The braking zones will start to feel automatic, the incidents will drop, and the racing will get closer in the best way.
GT3 is a rewarding class. The competition is real, the cars are accessible, and the racing is close. This iRacing GT3 beginner guide covers the basics, but the real learning starts on track. Get in, keep it clean, and give it time.
