Meanwhile, Crandon International Raceway stands as one of the more distinct circuits in iRacing’s dirt catalog. The layout runs through varying surfaces, and the Pro 4 truck slides across every corner with attitude. Because this is an off-road circuit rather than a traditional oval, the racing line constantly changes depending on moisture and rubber buildup. That unpredictability is a big part of what makes this event worth running every year.
iRacing Crandon Championship Format: How It Works
Each race session opens with a seven-minute qualifying window. Consequently, your lap time determines your starting position for the six-lap Heat race. After the Heat, your finish result sets your grid for the ten-lap Feature. Both races use Land Rush starting procedures, lining the field up in rows of up to ten trucks wide. When the lights go out, twenty trucks launch simultaneously across the width of the track. The opening corners are usually a mess, and that is a feature, not a bug.
The Lucas Oil Pro 4 Off-Road Truck is the only vehicle for this event. It is one of iRacing’s more specialized cars, built for short-course off-road racing. Most other sim titles do not offer anything like it. The truck generates a lot of wheel spin off the line. Active throttle management through the loose corners keeps you pointed in the right direction. However, if you are new to the truck, the Land Rush format actually helps. Because everyone is fighting the same battle at the same moment, one bad corner rarely ends your race.
Qualifying sessions run on a daily schedule through August 30. Tuesday’s session is at 9:00 p.m. ET. However, Wednesday through Friday each offer two sessions: one at 11:00 a.m. ET and one at 9:00 p.m. ET. Splits cap at twenty drivers, sorted by iRating. So your competition should be close to your skill level regardless of when you jump in.
Entry requires a Dirt Road Class C license or higher. If your license is Class D, you still qualify with a Safety Rating of 4.0 or above. That covers a wide range of active dirt racers on iRacing. In addition, the maximum disqualification limit is 17 incident points. That is firm but fair given the contact-heavy nature of off-road racing.
Super Sessions and the Championship Race
Once qualifying closes, the Super Sessions run on Saturday with sessions at 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. ET. The Championship Race follows on September 6 at Noon ET. That timing lines up with the real-world Crandon World Championship races that same Labor Day weekend in Wisconsin. If you qualify and advance through the Super Sessions, you will race for the title on that Sunday.
