The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release has officially arrived as the headline act of the 2026 Season 1 update. Launching on December 9, 2025, this highly anticipated car replaces the 992.1 across all official competitions. It brings significant performance upgrades and modern driver aids that align the simulation with the latest real-world Porsche Carrera Cup and Supercup specifications.+2
New Features in the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing Release
This evolution of the world’s most popular one-make racer is more than just a visual update. The Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release introduces a reworked 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. Specifically, it now produces 520 horsepower, a 10-hp increase over its predecessor.+1
- Aerodynamic Overhaul: The car features a new front-end design with louvered fenders to improve downforce. Furthermore, the revised rear “swan-neck” wing provides more consistent airflow.+1
- Braking System: iRacing has implemented a complete rework of the braking system. This includes new brake pad options and improved heat dissipation for better durability in endurance events.+1
- Rain Racing Ready: From day one, the 992.2 is fully equipped for the iRacing weather system. Specifically, it uses the latest spec of wet-weather tires developed with real-world driver feedback.+1
- Launch Control: A new launch RPM limiter logic has been added. It arms while the car is stationary and helps manage wheelspin during standing starts.
The Addition of ABS and Traction Control
The most talked-about change in the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release is the inclusion of standard ABS and Traction Control (TC). In the real world, many Cup series are moving toward these aids for 2026 to improve car longevity and safety.
In the sim, these systems are enabled by default but can be adjusted or disabled by the driver. The ABS system features split front and rear axle slip targets, mimicking the high-tech Bosch M5 racing units. While some purists may prefer the “analog” feel of the older car, these aids allow you to attack the braking zones with much more confidence. Consequently, the car is expected to be roughly 1.5 seconds faster per lap than the 992.1 at most Grand Prix circuits.+1
Ownership and Series Migration
iRacing has been very generous with the Porsche 911 Cup 992.2 iRacing release. If you already owned the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.1), the new 992.2 was added to your account for free. The older model has now been moved to Legacy content.
This car immediately takes over as the primary vehicle for the iRacing Porsche Cup series and the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup. Furthermore, AI drivers have been fully trained to race the 992.2 on all supported tracks.
